Best Western Hotels & Resorts continues to introduce its innovative SureStay Hotel Group to exciting new destinations across Asia with the opening of a new property at the heart of Vientiane in Laos.
Opening its doors on November 19, 2019, SureStay Hotel by Best Western Vientiane is located in the center of the Lao capital, a short stroll from the banks of the Mekong River and the city’s lively Walking Street. Vientiane’s Wattay International Airport is just a 15-minute drive away.
The launch of this hotel will introduce international service standards to the premium economy hotel sector in Vientiane. Designed with a blend of classical Lao art deco and French colonial styles, SureStay Hotel by Best Western Vientiane will comprise 68 rooms and suites, all featuring sleep-inducing beds, refreshing bathrooms, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Sofitel makes debut in Laos
Sofitel makes debut in Laos
AccorHotels has launched its luxury Sofitel brand in Laos, with the opening of a new property in Luang Prabang.
The new Sofitel Luang Prabang is set in a mansion built in the 1900s for the French Governor’s family. It features just 25 suites which range in size from 46 to 120m² and feature shuttered windows, hand-carved wooden beds and private gardens. Some of the units also feature private plunge pools.

The hotel also serves as a gallery, housing a collection of Indochinese art and a library with one of Luang Prabang’s largest book collections.
“I think that what guests will find most captivating at Sofitel Luang Prabang is the fusion that occurs on so many levels,” said the hotel’s GM, Pablo Barruti.
“Heritage is married with modern comfort, and the enduring tranquillity, both within the verdant gardens and just outside in the serene residential quarter, will appeal to guests in search of refuge in this age of sensory overload.”
In terms of F&B, the hotel’s restaurant, Governor’s Grill, offers both indoor and al-fresco seating in a colonial-style tent overlooking the garden, and there is also a wine cellar. Other facilities include a spa, a 25-metre mosaic-tiled swimming pool and a fitness centre, and guests will also be offered yoga and pilates classes.
For the MICE market, Sofitel Luang Prabang houses a boardroom and a 70-pax lounge, while the garden can host up to 200 guests for outdoor events.
Sofitel Luang Prabang becomes AccorHotels’ second property in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town, following the 3 Nagas hotel, which forms part of the MGallery Collection. The company also operates ibis and Mercure hotels in the Lao capital Vientiane.

Sala Champa Hotel - Pakse

There are two different styles of rooms at Sala Champa with the difference being the building they're housed in and their size. It's a standard hotel with some boutique aspects such as quirky designer chairs to lounge on and a tasteful paint job on what otherwise would look like a ratty old building.
It's been done up just enough to clear away that old dumpy feeling and now has a bit of grace about it. The rooms are still simple, with wooden floors, hardly any furniture, old TVs and slightly dark, dank and disappointing bathrooms. In fact, it's the bathrooms that really let this whole place down and they need to give them a good old makeover. A reasonable choice, but not as special as it wants to be.

Fang Sedon Guest House - Pakse
The Fang Sedon Guesthouse in Pakse, Laos is located North of Wat Luang, beside the river. The main reason people come to Fang Sedon Guesthouse is for the cheap fan rooms dotted around the property. The rooms come with cheap beds topped with cheap sheets, cold water bathrooms and bucket-flush Western toilets – nothing else.
There is an untidy terrace that in days gone by was a dream, but we were underwhelmed at how unkempt it looked. They just need to spend a bit of money on some nice tables and chairs and clean up the river bank below and it would indeed be THE spot for an afternoon beer – at the moment it's not. For 50,000 kip you can't really complain, though and as nearly everyone who stays here is a fellow backpacker, you're likely to meet other like-minded travellers.

Sabaidy 2 Guesthouse - Pakse
Turn north off the main street at the crossing near the Green Discovery office. It's the only guesthouse in town with dorms (very basic). The shared showers have hot water. They also have basic rooms. 30k kip (4$) for the dorm - 45k kip / 60k kip for single or double rooms. Apparently being mentioned in the lonely planet completely got to these guys heads, as the rooms are overpriced, and they charge for everything extra, like keeping your bags while you check out the Bolevan plateau. They even charge extra for the WiFi (10,000 Kip/day). Laundry 15,0000 kip/kg. If you want you can rent a motorbike from here, among several other businesses around town. Have a day tour to boloven at 180-250,000 kip depending on the number of persons.
